Hello Gang,
My tip for this week involves meauring your effort. Now this may sound a
little ridiculous because most riders think that they should just go as
hard as they can all the time. This might be a good strategy if all you do
are 1 hour long crits but even an effort off of the front for a complete
hour is not possible for most riders. I have been asked several times
about how to make a break away work or even how to solo of of the front.
The idea is to make an initial surge to snap your chasers and than settle
in to a rythm to make it to the finish in front of the field. Practicing
this is really important so you know how hard and how long you can hold
your speed. So the next time you show up to TNW and you wonder why guys
keeping surging off of the front only to get swallowed by the field later
on, they might actually be training for the real thing. When you see that
same rider solo to a win at the next weekend race, it will all be a little
clearer.
TNW:
Last week we had horrendous winds. Many of you opted to stay home and hide
from the wind. The riders that showed up braved the wind and a soon breaks
started to form as sprinters were dropped and hard men went to the front.
Kenny started the initial break with Bitters. Bitter and Kenny were soon
joined by Jitters from Pro Cyclery, Hansel, myself, and RS. With tactics
in play different riders were gapped off that were not working in the wind.
Hansel dropped off and we were down to five. Jitters would not work so
Kenny gapped him off. Jitters came back and we were down to four. I
gapped him again because he would not work and he towed me back to RS and
Bitter. At this point we had enough and me and RS said goodbye to our
companions and the two of us soloed in with RS taking his second TNW title.
STATE TT CHAMPS
The Boss, myself, and Kircher did the 40+ race. The Boss posted a smoking
49:17 to take the W and the state title. Kircher came in not far behind
that with 5th place. I dragged in at 53:09 for 12th. Julie Cutts took the
womans cat 3 title. Bitter posted a great time to take the men's cat 3
title. Very nice showing Vegas with three state championship jerseys.
Barry Wolfe GP
I did not have any results but I was told that Kam took another Cat 3
sprint for the win. I should think his Cat 2 upgrade is imminent. GREAT
JOB DANNY
CBR Race
Me and Kenny got out Monday to to the 40+ race. The pace was hot with
Amgen driving the front to keep the field together. I tried to get in any
move possible to get off the front but it was not to be. Kenny covered
some nice moves including a break with Meeker but the sprinters teams were
to motivated to keep it together and Meeker took the bunch sprint
In the 30+ race i was racing solo and my plan to get in a succesful break
failed again. Again the field was way to hungry to let anybody get away
with many teams chasing their own guys down. Big Carl took the bunch for
another W.
I know several guys from Vegas were represented in the pro race but Idid
not stay to see the results. Little Hurt and Dark Cloud were there for
Allegiant as well as Lance for Cal Pools. Bug Ryan was out to play for
Penta.
Upcoming Races
Just some FYI. The High Unitas stage race is about a month away in Utah.
Trust me when I tell you that this is an epic stage race. Well run and
well worth the drive. They do a great job with this race and I would
encourage all of you to check it out. It has a TT, RR and a crit so a
little something for everyone and a chance to race in some epic scenery.
Dont miss out.
Cascade Classic in July has their web site up and running. This is by far
the best race I go to every year and they now have a Cat 2/3 field and a
Cat 4 field. If you want to step up your game and have a great racing
experience you should check this out. You have 4 stages with a TT,
Downtown crit, RR and Circuit Race. The Road race is very finishable for
all you pansies afraid of climbing and you will not find a stage race
anywhere that does a better job. Think it over.
Random Thoughts:
The Boss is a TT God!! That was a tough 40K and his time would have been
third in the Pro 1-2. Awesome
Bitter got a little revenge this weekend and scored a nice state jersey.
Now if we can just teach him to corner????
Kircher posted a smoking time with his back still bothering him. I feel
sorry for those Hawaiians in June. He is heading to the islands to do some
races. Are we going to have 2 state champs at PT this year???
Anyone seen Chicken?? I heard he has been training at Stoney's on the
weekend. Apparently the mechanical bull is good training for top level
duathletes.
Balch is getting back to normal. Lots of attacks from him last night.
Kam continues to dominate with his sprinting. I can not wait to see how he
does against the Pro 1-2 fields. He may need some lead out guys. We will
have to wait and see if Sqwak Box and Gagne can step up to take him to the
line.
Thurlow can kiss my ass. He protested the boss at the TT for some unknown
reason. After a lot of discussion and some heated argument we found out
that the Boss was well within the rules to race the 40+ cat. The sad thing
is that Thurlow and Amgen did not have anyone in the race so the only
reason to protest was to be a dick. I would have expected better from a
veteran but I guess sportmanship gets lost when you race for money. More
to come on that later.
What is with the TNW no show when the wind kicks up??? Come on Vegas.
They don't call races because it is a little windy.
I would like to hear some of the plans for you racers this summer. i would
hate to think that the Paul Tracy Team are the only ones racing.
See all of you over the weekend training or racing.
